Welcome to Bark House ….

Our beautiful home is situated in an enviable position in Witherslack, near Grange over Sands, in an unspoilt valley between Whitbarrow Scar and Cartmel Fell in the Southern Lake District.

Surrounded by thousands of acres of Ancient Woodland and miles of quiet country lanes, far from any main roads , we are ideally positioned to offer the very best in Professional Home Boarding and Doggy Day Care.

Luxury Accommodation

Our dedicated Dog Room, in the heart of my home, has been specifically designed by myself, to provide the epitome in Comfort, Cleanliness, Safety and Cosiness.

Craftsman built to my own design, the solid wood and iron dog beds are raised to avoid draught, with built in storage for the luxury bedding.

Luxury bedding , which is washed daily is provided to ensure snuggly sleeping and comfort.

The wood burner provides the heat and gentle light at night.

The floor is tiled to ensure the highest standard of hygiene being cleaned and disinfected twice daily .

Being an old stone property,  it is also beneficial in the warm/hot weather as the room becomes very cool for comfortable sleeping.

The room and the house are equipped with smoke alarms, carbon monoxide detectors and fire extinguishers which are serviced and certified by FTS KENDAL annually.

The outer door from the room leads directly into the secure fenced gardens and Play Paddock, and my office is in the adjoining room.

After a busy day of great adventures, where better then to settle down …………………

Our dog utility room, affectionately known as "The Dog House", has been designed by me to provide an organised, fully equipped room for all our dog related needs.

It is also our reception area, so our clients can see each day the level of organisation and cleanliness.

Each dog has their own lead hook ,so the owners can walk in each morning and hang it up as they arrive.

Each dog has their own food tin, so owners can check and fill up if necessary .

We have lots of dog coats in all sizes, so no one has to get cold or wet while walking. We have lots of microfibre towels too, and a power blaster dog hair dryer!

We have a large fridge freezer for any fresh or frozen dog foods or medication our dogs use.

The dogs have their own washing machine and tumble dryer .

We use the best disinfectants and cleaning products.

Our licences and insurance certificates are displayed on the wall so are always on view for our clients .

Our First Aid Kits are fully stocked with the best products and our Fire Equipment and alarms are serviced and checked annually by FTS KENDAL.

We have safe, secure gardens and fun play paddock with 7ft deer fence . Dogs in our care are with us ALL day either out on adventures or around our home. Designed to give the dogs as much freedom as possible to have time and space to explore and play at their leisure.

Their days are full of fun and adventure and based around socialisation and natural passive behaviour.

Our days are structured to give the very best in both mental and physical stimulation , in a natural environment.

Each day begins with early morning let out for toileting around 6am

The fire (unless summer !) is cleaned and re lit , the room cleaned and night bedding swapped for day bedding. Night bedding is then vacuumed and laundered in the best quality washing products, dried on the airer above the fire ready for the night again.

From 7am our day care dogs begin to arrive, ready for the day ahead.

First walk of the day begins at 8.30 am , usually in the adjoining woods so the dogs can have  the best combination of sense stimulation and of course great chasing around!

On return from the first walk, dogs are fed and given half a dental stick . They can then continue to play in the paddock and gardens or can go back by the fire and relax.

When all the dogs are walked and fed, we then clean up any "doggy droppings " and disinfect the yard.

Mean while, the dogs are usually playing in the paddock and gardens while we do all the hard work !

The dogs usually then have afternoon nap around 1pm (either in the dog room or in better weather in the gardens and deck area) when we have our lunch.

After lunch its time to go out again, another adventure .

Most of the dogs in our care can walk off lead in a safe environment, but we always incorporate  lead walking in order to balance out their response behaviour.

On return from the afternoon walk, usually around 3.30pm, the dogs can then continue play out together . until feeding time around 4pm.

They can then be in or out as they choose (in dry warm weather), or snuggled up by the fire in the winter until they are collected by their owners in the evening.

Our boarding dogs are then given their luxury night bedding whilst I then clean the room again, tend the fire and wash the floor.

The day bedding is then laundered ready for the next day.

Water bowls are replenished and after a last let out for toileting , when the dogs are settled and sleeping, its lights out .

In summertime, we are usually out until dark , weather permitting .

All our adventures are filmed each day to give our discerning clients a record of their dogs activities in their absence. These can be seen on our Facebook page.
